Slightly positive development in the April survey of the Marketing Barometer

After a noticeable decline in most of the indicators surveyed in the last Marketing Barometer, they are rising again in April. After a brief slump due to the war in Ukraine, the marketing industry is assessing its situation and future prospects somewhat better again.

The German marketing industry estimates the current business climate in April at an index value of 91.0 points, 1.7 points higher than in the previous month. At the same time, the ifo Business Climate, a benchmark for the German economy as a whole, rose by 1.0 points to an index value of 91.8 points. Assessments of both the current business situation and business expectations increased by a similar amount. The marketeers surveyed assess the current business situation as 1.5 points higher than in the previous month, to an index value of 92.8 points. The future prospects of the marketing industry, as measured by the business expectations indicator, also improved by 1.8 points in the index to 89.1 points.

Likewise all remaining raised indicators of the DMV-ifo marketing barometer rise. A decreasing majority of the German marketing industry expects a decreasing order backlog in April, measured by the balance value of -5.1 (+2.7 points). Furthermore, the assessment of the number of employees rises significantly to a balance of 22.9 (+12.5) points. The respondents' sales expectations for the marketing sector are also clearly in positive territory, rising slightly to a balance of 23.1 (+1.7) points. In an inflationary environment, the industry's price expectations continue to rise and are once again at a high of 41.7 (+5.8) points in April.
