Ongoing Positive Development of the Marketing Barometer in May

For the second month in a row, most indicators in the DMV-ifo Marketing Barometer are developing positively. The marketing industry thus also improved its self-assessment in May.

German marketeers assessed the business climate in May as 2.9 points higher than in the previous month, with an index value of 94.1 points. At the same time, the ifo Business Climate Index, the German economy benchmark, rose by just 1.1 points to a value of 93.0 points. The assessment of the current business situation rises somewhat more sharply by 4.3 points to 97.4 points. As the last leading indicator, the business expectations of the German marketing industry increased by 1.6 points to 90.9 points.

All remaining indicators, except price expectations, are also rising. The order backlog was assessed as significantly higher in May, with a positive balance value of 6.3 (+10.9) points. Likewise, the assessment regarding the number of employees rises to a balance of 26.4 (+3.6 points) in May. The most significant improvement was seen in sales expectations, which rose to a positive balance of 39.7 (+15.8) points in the current month.
