More positive self-assessment of the marketing industry in October

The three main indicators of the DMV-ifo Marketing Barometer improved significantly in October compared to the previous month. The medium-term upward trend in the German marketing industry since the beginning of the current year is thus continuing.

German marketeers assess the current business climate in October as 2.8 points better than in the previous month, to an index value of 96.9 points. By comparison, the ifo Business Climate Index, a benchmark for the German economy as a whole, fell by 1.2 points to 97.7 points. The assessment of the business situation in the marketing industry also improved in October, rising by 1.1 points to an index value of 92.5 points. The business expectations of the Marketeers increase most clearly by 4.7 points to 101.6 points.

With order backlog and sales expectations, two of the four other indicators are also rising significantly, while expectations regarding the number of employees and prices are declining. The order backlog rises most significantly to a balance of -3.9 (+6.0) points. Likewise, sales expectations improve significantly to a balance of 39.3 (+5.5) points. The only declines are in expectations for the number of employees, which remain clearly positive at 23.8 (-3.6) points, and in price expectations, which are estimated at a balance of 20.1 (-5.0) points in October.
